Every few months another press release announces a new epoxy resin plant somewhere in East Asia. Most of them are real. Some are still land purchases dressed up as capacity. Telling the two apart is most of the job.
I filmed a short recap after visiting one of the newer sites this quarter, mostly because photos alone don't capture how far a plant actually is from commissioning — and that gap is exactly what moves European spot prices six months later.
What actually matters for European buyers
Not the headline capacity number. What matters is whether the new lines are qualified for the grades your specification actually needs, and how much of that capacity is already spoken for under long-term offtake before it even reaches the open market.
My working estimate: real incremental supply reaching Europe by mid-next-year is meaningfully lower than the announced totals would suggest. I'll revisit this once Q1 commissioning data is out.
